Sahaj Yog

"You cannot know the meaning of your life until you are connected to the power that created you"

About Us:

Sahaja Yoga is a meditation style and new religious movement founded by Nirmala Srivastava in the year 1970. According to the movement, Sahaja Yoga is the state of self-realization produced by kundalini awakening and is accompanied by the experience of thoughtless awareness or mental silence. Sahaja Yoga is not only the name of the movement, but also the technique the movement teaches and the state of awareness achieved. Sahaja Yog teaches that self-realization through kundalini awakening is a transformation which results in a more moral, united, integrated and balanced personality.Sahaja Yoga started in India and England (where Nirmala Srivastava moved in 1974). Currently there are about 100 Sahaja Yoga centres spread worldwide.

Nirmala Srivastava (Nirmala Salve, 21st March, 1923– 23rd February, 2011), also known as Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, was the founder of Sahaj Yog. She claimed to have been born in a fully realised state and spent her life working for peace by developing and promoting a simple technique through which people could achieve their own self-realization. Shri Mataji has been recognized worldwide by several prestigious institutions for her selfless work and for the powerful results of her spiritual teachings. In 1993, she was appointed as Honorary Member of the Presidium of Petrovskaya academy of Art and Science. She was recognized and greeted by the mayors of several cities in North America (Yonkers, NY, 1994 & 1996, Los Angeles, 1993 and 1994, British Columbia, 1994, Cincinnati 1992, Philadelphia 1993, Berkeley, 1997). She was given a Proclamation by the US Congress in 1997 which was submitted to the Congressional Records. Shri Mataji was declared "Personality of the Year" in 1986 by the Italian Government. Meta Modern Era by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi is a loving, compelling and powerful book that introduces a tangible spiritual breakthrough for the 21st century — spontaneous Self Realization through Sahaja Yoga meditation- which opens a new dimension in human awareness.

Aims and Mission:

To create a world in which human beings are spiritually enlightened, endowed with the power of pure love and compassion and equipped with the judgement and discernment to overcome the differences between men, and work together towards a world of peace, harmony and benevolence. and to perpetuate, document and facilitate the spreading of the teachings of Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi and the practice of Sahaja Yoga, the meditation founded by her.

Sahaja Yogis emphasizes that the state achieved through self-realization makes the truth behind all religions apparent. Sahaja Yoga philosophy is seen as a rediscovered ancient knowledge which should be treated respectfully and scientifically. It allows every follower to experiment and earn their own experience before accepting it as truth.

Sahaja Yoga is held to be different from other yoga/meditations because it begins with self-realization through kundalini awakening rather than as a result of performing techniques or asanas. The hypothesis is that the experience of self-realization can be individually verified. It is believed that when the kundalini energy of an individual is awakened, he/she gets connected with the all pervading power and is in union with God.

Sahaj Yog gives opportunity to everyone realize and attest the energy of kundalini awakening in each of their sessions.
